work by d*face in the stolenspace summer group show. wish i was in london. wish i owned it.
seen in paris: stencil by william benhamou [translation: give back to art the simplicity of not being simple]
i was stoked today when i got home and a box had arrived for me, containing roger gastman’s new book tools of criminal micheif. many thanks to zio of the awesome website these delights for finding out through my svpply page that i wanted it, reaching out to me, and gifting me a signed copy.
had to stop and photograph this tonight. first, it’s the most creative use of snow and cigarettes i’ve ever seen. second, if you think about it, it is a completely ephemeral work. forget about graffiti getting buffed, this was gone by the time i walked home later. lastly, it reminded me of another piece of street art i’d seen in france and posted about earlier this year.
street artist alec monopoly, whom i’ve posted about in the past, opened his first ever solo exhibit in new york city at a pop-up gallery. opening reception was a blast, and the show is incredible. definitely stop by before it’s gone.
i had to stop when i walked past these sculptures in the window of a closed gallery in the marais. they looked like extras from corpse bride, but they’re actually art by christophe goussault.
if art had a facebook “like” button, i would have pressed it on this:
the palais de tokyo, a contemporary art museum in paris, had these muppets-meet-tim burton statues by théo mercier on display as part of their dynasty exhibit, in collaboration with their neighboring museum, musée d’art moderne.
infographics as art: saw these pieces by artists the guerilla girls on display at the centre pompidou.
a few months ago i went to the museum of art and design for the first time and loved it. now they have a show entitled “dead or alive” featuring art made of once living materials. it should be no surprise to anyone who has ever been to this site before that i have a love of skulls/skeletons, so i thoroughly enjoyed this one.
the winner of the “want this in my house award” goes to shen shaomin’s “sagittarius,” made of bone, bonepaste, and glue.
